The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and parts of the United States. The ritual which mocks death, is celebrated by wearing wooden skulls and dancing in honor of deceased relatives. The Day of the Dead is celebrated each year beginning on October 31stand ends on November 2nd. The holiday consist of gatherings of friends and family. They get together to remember and pray for family members and friends who have died. The people build private altars. These altars are called ofrendas. They visit the graves, bringing gifts of favorite beverages and foods of their deceased loved ones. Visitors may also leave gifts at the graves.
