Europeans were looking towards imperialism in Africa after slavery ended in 1883. Imperialism is when a strong country takes control of a weaker country. Different European countries such as Britain, France, Germany, and Italy took control of all African states except for Liberia and Ethiopia by 1885, according to Document A. Some reasons they chose to do so was to gain power, trade, and have better access to a bountiful amount of resources.
