The Deepwater Horizon Explosion In preference to the explosion The Deepwater Horizon was known because it had drilled the deepest oil well in history. The Deepwater Horizon acted as a offshore oil drill rig. Now primarily known for one of the world’s largest crude oil spill. The initial explosion caused ten million gallons of crude oil to be spilled into the ocean. The oil affected numerous areas as well as living creatures. This incident also affected a multitude of people and their way of life. The Deepwater Horizon is located in the Gulf of Mexico, which resulted in the contamination of the coastlines. It also worked on wells in the Atlantis and Thunder Horse oil fields. The Deepwater Horizon explosion negatively impacted wildlife, people and the environment. To begin, The Deepwater Horizon explosion negatively impacted wildlife. Approximately over 8,000 animals were reported dead within a six month period. Also researchers show that the oil spill is causing long-term damage to the residents in the area.
