Although Chesapeake colonies and those in New England shared the same English language, they had a lot of distinct social patterns.

Most of settlement moved to Chesapeake to find wealth such as gold, silver or other things to make money if they could bring those back to Europe while the others moved to New England to seek for religious freedom. They wanted to be free to be able to follow the natural religion.

In economy, Chesapeake colonists learnt how to make corn, and growing tobacco besides trading the slaves. However, they latterly lived in harmful environment with bad eating habits.
