Articles state that zoos are constantly changing and developing to create safer and more efficient exhibits for the animals. For example building bigger habitats, nicer overall living conditions, and better food sources. Another reason that these zoos are so important is because they can save animals from becoming extinct. When researchers start to notice a rapid decline in the number of animals in a species, they rely on zoos to take in a male and a female of that species to breed and increase the population. Taking in these animals to breed with each other could save a species that could otherwise be completely wiped out. Another way zoos can protect animals is from hunters or poachers in the wild. Zoos ensure that the animals are not vulnerable to those predators in the wild. Letting animals free into the wild can make them exposed to those kind of dangers, making zoos an efficient way to protect them. …show more content…
It also shows that it can be dangerous to mate in captivity. Since those animals are so close to extinction it raises the chances that you could be inbreeding the two animals. Inbreeding animals can lead to diseases and abnormalities. After breeding them, letting them into the wild is also a challenge because it is a totally different place to these animals. They are not used to those conditions and makes them vulnerable to predators. So instead of forcing these animals to breed in captivity, people should make it safe enough for them to breed on their own. Making changes such as hunting laws and laws against poaching can help prevent putting the animals in danger and extinction of species, therefore preventing the need to breed in captivity.
