During my time in English 101 at Mississippi College (MC), I can truly say I have become a better writer. I went from a C on my first essay in the class to an A on my second one in only a matter of weeks. I have learned so many things during my time in this class. I learned how to support my main idea or perspective better and how to get my audience of my essay to see that main idea. I can even see my improvement between my first essay and my last. With the help of this class, I was able to see my mistakes in my first essay that I was not able to see when Mr. Melancon, my English 101 professor, first gave back our essays at the beginning of the semester. I fully understand why my perspective was not clear in my first essay. With my revision, I think I have really improved and made my perspective clearer, which will allow my audience to understand what the purpose of my essay is. I even when as far as to change the perspective so that the essay flows better. In my original essay I talked about how Professor Charlotte McMath’s hard work took her a long way, but in my revision, I talked more about the impact that she has on her students. When writing an essay there are two major things you should focus on and that is your perspective and your audience. Once you figure out what you want your perspective to be, then you have to figure out what audience you want to address. After learning more about improving my perspective in this class, I learned how to write for that audience I chose to address. You have to know how to write for different audiences because you should not address the President the same way you would address your friends. This is something this class has helped me with a great deal. Even though college has taught me a great deal, there are still somethings only that only high school can teach
