The catalyst known to stimulate and accelerate chemical reactions is known as an enzyme. Enzymes contain a specific site where the reaction will take place, known as the active site. This site is unique where only a certain type of molecule, substrate, may attach. The reaction will take place and the products of the reaction will be released. There are two main hypotheses on the shape of an enzyme. The first one is the lock and key hypothesis. This hypothesis explains that the shape of the enzyme and the shape of the substrate are so specific they are only able to bind to each other. The second hypothesis is the induced fit hypothesis. This hypothesis states that the enzyme changes shape as it is approached by the substrate molecule. Temperature,
