Enzymes are globular proteins that are vital to our bodies because they act as powerful catalysts that further chemical reactions in our cells by using various mechanisms in which all energy-of-activation levels are below the original reaction mechanism. The majority of enzymes are made of up of only 20 different types of amino acids and increase the probability of reactions by binding to two different chemical reactants at the same time. Enzymes are specific, in the sense that they are unique from others and are only able to react with complimentary substrates, in which they fit perfectly together and form the enzyme-substrate complex.
