Using the Ethics Problem Solving Model, we can determine the best action plan in making a decision with this case by breaking it down into three categories: description, analysis, and decision. In this case, Yours is a not for profit organization that does not receive a lot of funding. Although the donor is willing to provide Yours with funding, it requires my organization to mute its stance on the local controversy. The description portion requires us to assess the stake holders and their stances in this situation. In addition, the employees will be out of a job if the organization doesn’t change its stance to secure the financial support of the donor. the risk and benefits of the outcomes must be weighed. If my organization were to change its stance and the reasonings behind this stance were discovered, the credibility of my organization would be questioned. In addition, if my organization changed its position due to the pressure of the donor, they may fall into being pressured again by this donor in the future. Moving on to the analysis portion, I have a duty to my organization and its beliefs and changing them over a gift is very unethical. However, the large amount of funding would be in the best interest of the public so that the organization and afford to do more. Virtue based ethics applies to this case because we want to maintain the position of a person with good character would do. Although a person of good character would probably choose to maintain its position, a downfall would be dealing with the loss of hard working employees. In addition, the consequentialist approach applies because I would want to pick a choice that provides the greatest good for all parties
