Contrapasso represents the level of punishment for each sinner in the story Dante’s Inferno. As Dante steps further into hell he sees a lot of many different punishments that are made for each sinners depending what what they did. In like manner out of all of the levels given their is always one level that seems more terrifying than the others. For example, there is many circles but circle 3 is the circle of gluttony. In Dante’s inferno gluttony mean that the sinners have serious issues in their drinking habits or even eating habits. In the seven deadly sins in circle 3, the weather is usually always raining polluted stinky water. Unlike circle three the sinners get burned in their tombs. The sinners get burned in their tombs because they did not believe in the life after death. Virgil stated “ they believed instead that when they died they would be in a tomb forever, and that is exactly what will happen to them.” ( page 36) Dante was amused by the way that the bodies were acting when they were coming out of their tombs. Dante states “ half of your body is in a tomb and half of your body is sticking out of the tomb.” ( page 37) In contrast this is still not the end of the punishment they still need judgement day when the sinful souls will be reunited with their sinful bodies and they will not be able to come out of their tombs because they believed they would only be closed in their basically for being close minded. Sometimes once we make the idea of how it will happen and we decide to believe that and only that but in many ways we are wrong but we just made that image up in our head that it stays with us.
