People change, grow, learn new things, and make differences in their own life which can make them heroes in their own stories, or others. Just like Ponyboy, Dally, and Johnny. They all were heroes, that made a difference. Even though they may not look the part, they are still brave and heroic. Which they all did things to earn, being called a hero.
To start off Dally was a hero, because he saved Johnny at the fire in the church. As it said in The outsiders on page 81, it states, "We think the towheaded kid is going to be all right. He burned one arm pretty badly, though, trying to drag the other kid out the window.” This explains how Dally is a hero, if he saved Johnny from dying or getting more injured he should be considered a hero, also

Which it says in the book on page 50 it states, "I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade... they were gonna beat me up...." This shows me that if Johnny didn’t stab Bob, Ponyboy would have not been there anymore. So therefore Johnny was brave and was Ponyboy's hero. This shows how Johnny was a hero over all.
Lastly we have Ponyboy. Ponyboy was a hero for saving all of those kids in the fire. It states on page 79 that, “I picked up a kid, and he promptly bit me, but I leaned out, the window and dropped him as gently as I could, being in a hurry like that .”. This shows that Ponyboy is a hero because if he didn’t jump in and save those kids, they wouldn’t be here anymore. And who would if he wouldn’t, this really shows an act of bravery. He was definitely a hero for doing such. That's why Ponyboy would be considered a hero.
Now you should understand why Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy are all heroes. They all did heroic acts and been brave, when they didn’t have too. Which is the best meaning of what a hero is. Now think about how you could be a hero in your everyday life? It doesn’t take much if you realise whats
