Savage killings, brutal beatings, and serious felonies caused by children happen everyday. These are serious felonies, with major consequences. The assailant can stand on trial in an adult court, and be sentenced many years, if not, life in prison. They receive, in most cases, a sentence that they deserve. "Old enough to commit the crime, old enough to do the time." It’s a popular statement and one that I agree with. Many think it is wrong to try children as adults in court because of how underdeveloped their brains are; or that they lack the ability to know what they are doing. I believe the legal system should have the option to try juveniles as adults in murder or other serious crime cases. Kids need to know that if they commit a felony they are responsible and don’t get special treatment for their age. Giving a harsh sentencing, such as those found in adult courts, can also act as a deterrent for children thinking about committing a serious crime. The consequence for a crime should be the same no matter the age. In many cases it can be harmful to give a child protection by saying they don’t have any responsibilities; so they shouldn't be tried in adult court. This can lead to children growing up to adopt irresponsible roles in society. Crime is crime; no matter if a child or adult commits it.
