It was dry there was no water, they had had no food for days and people were are dying from starvation and lack of natural resources. In May 1607, England is going to new permanent colony for more land and riches. They arrived at the Chesapeake Bay with 100 men and 0 women. When they arrived they were surrounded by powhatan settlements and often got attacked by them.Colonists died in Jamestown because of three main problems. These problems were lack of natural resources, occupations, and lack of knowledge. One of the main reasons colonists died was because lack of natural resources. One of the main problems were fish”Fish are presented in local streams, but only in the spring and early summer are they there in impressive abundance”(55). They had droughts and they lasted for months. They had no water and no food and people were dying from starvation. They also died from the water because the salt water from the sea and the fresh water from the stream was mixing and probably causing the people to be sick and die. They only had one doctor so if the doctor died or tons of patients got sick he could not help them all get better. They also had 47 gentlemen and only and 63 other people, “A gentleman was a person of wealth who was not used for working with his hands”(59).The gentlemen also had slaves called Boys, “Boys were young servants”(59). This means that some of the people were not doing anything to stay alive and that the boys were doing all the work what if they died who was going to do the work. In 1607 they also had no apothecaries which means that if someone got sick they couldn't be healed because there was no medicine.They also didn’t have a dentist either so they could have got an infection and died. Occupations is one of the main problems why colonists died, if they had fixed all the problems in this paragraph they probably wouldn’t have the problems at
