Songhee Buck, Dahlia Michel, and I as a group of three to completed the action project. We participated one of Dr. John Paul De Cecco Endowed Lecture Series on April 26. This lecture was presented by Dr. Caitlin Ryan, director of the Family Acceptance Project. We decided to choose this event because we wanted to educate ourselves how to interact with LGBTQ children, youth and their families. Buck and Michel both have teaching experience with children, and they want to enhance their social work practice skills from this lecture if they work will LGBTQ children in the future. Recently, I attended the support group meetings at Student Success Program, and I learned that a gay student experienced a difficult time with family for his coming out. I wanted to gain more understandings about how LGBTQ people experience difficulties so that I can develop cultural humility to better interact with them and their families. …show more content…
Caitlin’s lecture to the community. I develop my plan by asking what, who, how, where, and when questions. I planed to download and print out some copy of Chinese, English, and Spanish versions of family acceptance project’s education booklets. I am going to bring them to the communities, schools, churches, and local social service agencies to ask them if they can provide the booklets to families. I planed to send these copies during summer and before fall semester begins.
