Frida Kahlo was an inspiration to many during her lifetime. She pushed through all of her struggles, and made the best of her life. Frida expressed her Mexican heritage through her clothing, artwork, and teaching. The Mexican culture was important to Frida, and everyone around her could see so. Frida had a harsh childhood. When she was a young child, her right leg became deformed when polio came upon her. Several years had passed when Frida was involved in a trolley-car accident. The injuries from it were severe, but they were not fatal. When in the hospital from the accident, doctors found that Frida had spina bifida. According to a biography from Encyclopedia of Mexico, "Despite all this, Kahlo was remarkable for her ability to rise to innumerable occasions" (par. 2). This quote explains how Frida encountered much hardship during her childhood, but those hardships never stopped her from living her best life. 1). This quote explains how individuals were so inspired by Frida. She had encountered so much as a young girl, and she overcame it until it was too powerful and took her life away. Frida first laid eyes on Diego Rivera when he came to her school to paint a mural. She was very attracted to him, despite the 22 years of age difference. Sometime later in 1929, they married. Their marriage was not healthy for the most part. Frida and Diego both had affairs throughout the marriage. Diego even included Frida’s sister Cristina in his cheating one time. The marriage was rocky, but they stuck together until Frida died in 1954. Aside from the marriage, they were both heavily involved in the Mexican culture.
