GALILEO GALILEI EXCOMMUNICATED

Everyone knows that sun and other celestial bodies orbit around the Earth, or at least that's what the church teaches. Gallileo Gallileo has just recently been accused of heresy for his idea of heliocentrism. The idea of heliocentrism is incredibly controversial in the eyes of the church. The theory describes that the Earth rather than being the center of the universe, instead orbits around the Sun along with all the other celestial bodies. Although the Inquisition initially warned him not spout his theories on heliocentrism, on April 12, 1633, he was put on trial for publishing his book Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems. Francis served as an Attorney General and as a Lord Chancellor for England. He is well known for reforming parts of English law, as well as his scientific works. Francis Bacon is considered the creator of the Scientific Method, a new way of experimenting. Following the new method allows for experiments to be reliable and accurate. Francis Bacon’s named will be remembered as an important individual in scientific methodology, and his legacy will live on in other scientists utilizing his scientific method.
Galileo Discovers Moon Craters
In the political cartoon, Galileo Galilei is describing his discoveries to the church. He has published a book called The Starry Messenger (1610), which includes Galileo's discoveries about the moon. In his book he has stated that the moon has uneven terrain. Specifically, he found that the moon is full of craters, mountains and other features. However, his discovery is contrary to popular belief as most other scientists at the time thought that the moon was in fact a smooth sphere. His discovery along with many of his other ideas such as believing and trying to prove heliocentrism also contradicted the Catholic Church’s teachings. Revolutions states that the Earth and other celestial bodies revolve around the sun. The church decided to censor the book as it clearly deviated from scripture which described the Earth as being the center of the universe. However, Copernicus’s heliocentric system certainly had some merit to it, but due to the Catholic Church’s stubborn nature and because Ptolemy’s geocentric model was more widely accepted, the book was banned unjustly even though the theory is plausible and hasn’t been disproved with tangible evidence yet. The Catholic Church unquestioningly believes in whatever is in the Bible and condemns anything that goes against what the bible
