Today’s world focuses greatly on Goffman’s sociological definition of dramaturgy. It’s used in a variety of different platforms such as social media, one on one conversations, and even establishments centered on entertainment and service. Dramaturgy is what the average American calls “putting on an act” or even “being fake”. These phrases may denote a negative connotation, but with a little practice or institutionalized expectations, they deem appropriate for many circumstances. For instance, while working at a restaurant, a waiter or waitress may use Goffman’s Dramaturgy simply because it is what’s expected of them. Whether they realize the formal meaning of their actions or not, they are participating in something that has been used for years
