Gregor In Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis

Franz Kafka was born on July 3, 1883. He grew up in Prague with three sisters and a strict mother and father. Overtime, Franz developed an appreciation for writing. He told his parents this might be something he would want to do in his life, but his father shut his dreams down immediately. His father wanted him to get a desk job and move up the ranks in the corporate world. Franz’s mother was too weak to stop or interfere, and did not really understand why kafka wanted to be a writer. Unfortunately, his family did not appreciate him and his dreams, and wanted him to get a job where he would make money and live a prosperous life. Franz want his own way and after he died, he eventually became a well known and published author. The situation that Franz was living in is very similar to a fictional character named Gregor. His family, overwhelmed with fear and disgust, casts him aside and treats him like the bug he is, not as a member of the family. His father at first stays out of the situation, trying to ignore Gregor. His father throws several apples at gregor in the kitchen to scare him off. As the story moves on, Gregor's father becomes violent, and he ends up giving Gregor a fatal wound when he tries to shoves gregor though the small opening leading to Gregor’s room. His mother, horrified at first, stays as far away as she can from Gregor. Eventually, she longs to see her son, as any mother would. Except she did not do anything in her power to help Gregor during his metamorphosis. His sister, Grete, was the only one who put an ounce of care towards him. At the beginning of the metamorphosis, she would lay out food for him to eat, and open his window to let the smell out.
