Homeless: Movie Analysis

As I began to watch the movie my expectations was stroked with a matter of curiosity and intrigue. What does it mean to be a Christian a quoted text that was used several time in the movie was: “you must give up all that you have if you want to be my disciple.” I have been homeless at one point in my life, with one child on my hip, another in my belly. This was a trying time for me, my faith in God gave me the strength to carry on. Being homeless with the only possession being clothing and the shoes on my feet is somewhat reflective of the monks; they have minimal personal belongings but by choice. No matter what life would exposed me to my faith in God remained strong. This movie shakes my spirit in many ways, one way it provokes a desire of wanting to live a life that is pleasing to God my heavenly father, and also it caused me to reevaluate my situation as far as choices that have been made about my future. Am I doing what the Lord requires me to do with my life? Should I be doing something else? Sometimes in life we need to feel that closeness with God in the spiritual aspect. I have found that it is good to get away from the mainstream of living. No television, telephone, or anything that be a distraction. When you need an answer or have a desire to have a spiritual moment with the Lord you will need solitude. Life at the monastery they shut in order to sing and pray more often than New Year’s Eve. We fast on certain days of the week as a Church also as an individual, whenever you may feel a need for a break through. When you fast you go without food or water, while you pray and talk to the Lord. If you fast for more than a day you can drink water but no food. This modest meal which is eaten by the monks at the monastery is not a typical meal for meal. In comparison to a meal that I prepared many times in Louisiana; which consisted of a bowl of greens and cornbread. Could be comparable to the modest meals of the monks. As members of society we are taught to fix our plates from the food groups in order to have a balanced diet; anything less we feel like that wasn’t a complete meal. I guess it really relies on where you were raised and whether or not you were impoverished as a child. Small meals if any at all was common in my household, but it taught me to be
