Many people consider Andrew Jackson to be a war hero president who had a positive historic impact on society. However, in reality Andrew Jackson was not a good president afterall. During his two terms as the seventh president of the United States, he abused his power and made decisions that poorly affected America. Jackson believed he knew what was best and that his beliefs and views were the only ones that mattered. During his presidential term, Andrew Jackson abused his presidential power by enforcing the Indian Removal Act, creating the Spoils System, and causing the bank wars.
The first instance in which Jackson proved to be an inadequate president was when he enforced the Indian Removal act. Jackson abused his power by going against the supreme court justice John Marshall’s decision to let the Native Americans be. Marshall declared that “the Indian territory is admitted to compose a part of the United States.” (History.state.gov) Jackson decided to take matters into his own hands and disobey their orders. He did this to get ahead with his ideas because he knew they would agree with him on government issues. He believed that his ideas would be implemented easier if the people allowing the laws to be passed were people who held the same beliefs and ideas. By doing this he was only looking out for himself instead of the good of the country. This was because instead of consulting with other people who had different ideas on what was best to get multiple viewpoints on the subject, he went ahead and only thought of his ideas and policies. This set a bad precedent for future presidents. This precedent was that it is better to get ahead with your views and cheat the system than play fair in government and follow the correct
