How Has Rap Music Influenced My Life

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From songs my mom would sing to me as a little kid, to the music I listen to today, it all has had a large influence on my life. Although the style of music that I listen to has changed over the years, my appreciation stays the same. As a child, my mother would always sing to me throughout the day. As she sang to me, often times I would nag at her to quit with the same old song of Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. Randomly, her gentle voice would start saying, “Did you ever know that you’re my hero?”, and I would constantly tell her to stop. Little did I know then, but that is a certain time in my life that I remember to this day. Growing up, I would listen to the genres of country and bluegrass, however, today I now listen to rap music. My favorite rappers at this time would have to be Kodak Black and J. Cole. I like the upbeat music that they bring to the table, as well as the style that they have in all of their songs. As far as Kodak Black, I started listening to his music during my sophomore year of high school. My best friend, Kaitlin, introduced his songs to me and I immediately fell in love with his music. My high school softball team was absolutely obsessed with his music, which caused me to listen and enjoy his work even more. Now every time that I listen to any song by Kodak Black, I reminisce over the times of softball season in high school. When it comes to J. Cole, his music has a much different story than that of Kodak. I started listening to J. Cole during my seventh grade year. I enjoyed his music, so I continued to listen to him throughout the years. Now to this day of my freshman year of college, I still listen and enjoy the songs of J. Cole every
