An immigrant may face deportation for committing a crime, collecting public assistance, violating immigration laws, failing to maintain his current status or observing conditions of his visa, or not informing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services when changing addresses. Immigrants have 10 days to report a change of address, says AllLaw.com.

As of 2015, an immigrant may face deportation for aggravated felonies, such as murder or rape, crimes of moral turpitude, such as fraud, crimes related to substance abuse or domestic violence and more. Green card holders must prove that they are self-supporting or have a sponsor, as opposed to becoming a public charge. Violations of immigration laws include alien smuggling and fraudulently marriage.
