James Garfield was the 20th president of the United States. He was known for opposing confederation secession. As you continue reading you will learn about his early life, his presidency, and life after being president. James Garfield was born November 19, 1831, in Moreland Hills, Ohio. His parents were Eliza Ballou Garfield and Abram Garfield. He had a formal education of college from William. He married Lucia Garfield on November 11, 1858. ms College. He became a carpenter and part-time teacher. Garfield was a hard-working man. He had three boys and two girls. His talent for mathematics extended to important proof of the ‘Pythagorean Theorem’, which he published in 1876.
