One of the main objectives that I set for myself when I decided to attend a four-year institution was to get more involved with the Latino community. I believe the Latino community on campus is vastly underrepresented with only 8% of the student body being made up of Hispanics. This semester I have the opportunity of being a part of an organization that primarily seeks to take a leadership role by meeting the needs of the Latino community through, academic achievement, cultural awareness, community service, and through the promotion of the Latino community and its people. The 13 Founding Fathers wanted to create a Latino Fraternity on their campus because up to that point there was no Latino Fraternity on their campus. Their only options were to join a historically white fraternity, or a historically black fraternity. They wanted to create a fraternity where Latinos could unite as brothers and represent the Latino community.
