Legalization of Marijuana
What do people really think about when they think about the legalization of marijuana? Are people thinking that it is a bad idea or a good idea? Marijuana is very good in so many different ways. People do not realize how much marijuana helps people in the long run. Marijuana should be legalized because it helps the body consume food, relax, and it relieves pain.
Marijuana is very helpful when it comes to helping the body consume food, it cuts down nausea and with weight loss it increases and restores the metabolism. When it comes to AIDS marijuana can reduce the nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting from the condition itself and the medications as well. Anticancer drugs can cause nausea and vomiting, because they irritate the stomach lining and affect the brain parts that control vomiting. “In 1985, the FDA approved the drug dronabinol---a synthetic form of THC in pill or suppository form---for treatment of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients who do not respond to standard treatment”(Fiket, 2011). When people are on chemo it makes food taste metallic and terrible so they do not what to eat. My family and I had a very close friend that had cancer. She never wanted to eat because she did not like any of the food; she said that she did not want to eat because she would always feel sick and want to throw it right up. My step mom told her to go get her marijuana card so that she could either smoke it or eat the eatables. She was never for marijuana, but then she took my step moms advise and she was able to eat and she did not feel nauseated. “Fifty-five percent of patients who took THC said the drug made food taste better, while 10 percent of patients who took placebo said the same thing, the researchers reported” (Chan, 2011). If anything, marijuana makes you gain weight. One of the side effects is it increases your appetite. Cowley, G., & Hager, M. talk about a women named Susan Nelson. She had developed lymphoma and she underwent chemotherapy. Anytime that she felt that she was going to get sick she would go and fire up a joint. The article states that she is not a dope head; she grew up on a military base. She did not want to go through what her husband had gone through when he had testicular cancer. Anyone that has ever smoked marijuana can say that they get hungry afterwards. That kind of anecdotal evidence has led doctors to think that it could help with extreme nausea.
Marijuana is good for the helping the bodies relax, it helps people that have insomnia and people that are high stung. They have a strand that is called the Indica stain and that one is a downer strain. It makes people want to sleep. It is a fact that those who smoke marijuana or eat an eatable that contains THC in the evenings tends to report a good night’s sleep. The people that have to deal with insomnia should consume an eatable because it is more of a body high therefore, the body is able to relax faster and fall asleep. “THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) affects a substance in the brain called anandamide. Anandamide causes a soothing sensation in the body when it reacts with THC” (Alice, 2011). The anandamide is something that can help you relax. My sister is 24 years old and she has always been high stung. When she gets stressed out she always yells at whoever is near her and takes it out on them. She wants to throw things and she gets so stressed that she just wants to cry. I went with her to her doctor’s appointment where she told her doctor what was going on. Her doctor told her to try marijuana and see if that helps and if not to come back and see him. So she tried it and it worked very well. I could not believe it. If she starts to feel stressed out at all she smokes a little marijuana and then she ends up being so calmed it is unbelievable. For children that are under the age
