In William Shakespeare drama, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers face many obstacles. With the feud between the Capulets and Montagues, Romeo and Juliet had to hide their love. Keeping their love secret caused even bigger problems, such as the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Out of all the characters that lead Romeo and Juliet to their deaths, Lord Capulet is the main cause because he is careless, impatient, and inconsiderate. No one can be blamed more for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet than Lord Capulet. Through the drama, Lord Capulet is careless and does not think of how his actions would affect others. Peter, one of Capulet’s servants, ran into Romeo and asked “Perhaps you have learned it without book. But I pray, can you read anything you see” (I,ii,60). Capulet made selfish decisions which was one of the many reasons Romeo and juliet killed themselves. Lord Capulet speaks for Juliet without knowing her thoughts and said “I think she will be ruled in all respects by me. Nay, more, I doubt it not.” (III,IV,13). Without knowing how Juliet felt, Lord Capulet went ahead and spoke for her saying that she would marry Paris. He was also selfish in the beginning of the drama when “Three civil brawls, bred of an airy word, By thee, old Capulet, and Montague.” (I,i,82). Lord Capulet was selfish for not thinking about how the rest of his family, Juliet, felt about the Montagues which caused Juliet to keep her love for Romeo secret. With the selfish acts of Lord Capulet he did not think about the feeling of his daughter which drove her away from him. Being selfish and all the other reasons were part of the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s
