Much like the scientist entrepreneur, a builder is someone who puts careful thought into the “practicality” of their ideas and is determined to cultivate a deep understanding of how things really work. However, unlike the scientist, a builder is also someone who is consistently prepared to capitalize on viable opportunities in an effort to scale their business to its greatest possible potential. If the builder group had a motto it would be, “the bigger, the better”, and few entrepreneurs embody this old adage quite like Mark Cuban. As an incredibly successful entrepreneur who has and continues to succeed in a variety of industries, Mark Cuban is the epitome of a builder entrepreneur, and throughout this paper we will discover who he is, why he exemplifies a builder, and what others can learn from him. Mark Cuban was born on July 31st, 1958 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is the eldest of three children. He looked for any job he could find, and despite his lack of computer experience or knowledge, was soon was granted an interview with a PC software sales company. Cuban read, studied, and learned everything he could about computers, software and programming, and it was his willingness to go above and beyond what was expected that ultimately impressed the company’s CEO and earned him a position on the firm’s sales team. After some time, personalities began to clash between Cuban and the CEO, and he once again found himself working for a company that could not support him ambitions. Eventually he was let go for pursuing a sale after being forbidden to do so and, even now, Cuban attributes that environment and experience to shaping the man, manager and entrepreneur he is
