When I first laid my eyes on “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children” film poster, I was bedazzled. A film that lies under the Fantasy/Adventure genre, “I'm in!” Well, let's just say I didn't show the same enthusiasm for the film after I was done watching it. The distasteful special effects paired up with horrible acting that even makes E.T look decent. Altogether makes “Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children” a mess of a movie.

Let's start off with the hideous special effects and lighting. Throughout the film most places appear very dark and sometimes hard to see what's going on. Sometimes it can even appear too bright at times. Let's now go special effects which are not horrible for 1 million dollar budget, but definitely not the 110 million they got. The main problem I have is with the Hollowgasts. It doesn't take a VFX artist to know that they were made from a green screen later in the production process.

First off, let's talk about the most dull and uninteresting main character in any movie, Jake (Asa Butterfield). I don't know if Ransom Riggs tried to make Jake seem like he has only three emotions, but it sure seems like it. Jake never seems to react to anything. When is Grandpa died, he didn't even look like he cared and when he kissed Emma it didn't, even feel like he was happy. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree with Abe Portman. At the start of the film, you don't know anything about Abe so it's hard to be sad about his death. At the end, it doesn't even feel like Abe cares that he was back alive. Another thing that bugs me about the film is that they barely explained the backstory of the Peculiars. The ending left me with so many questions unanswered. The movie characters are supposed to relate to you and make you feel emotions. The whole film motto should be “quantity over
