Not many people understand them, but when something goes wrong, mental illness is blamed. Why did that person shoot up the school? Oh they had some mental illness. Why did so-and-so attack him? He’s just a little messed up in the brain.
Modern day witch hunts occur when people are afraid of something and they feel the need to get rid of that fear. One way they can do that is by taking control of the situation and gaining control of that fear. Once control is gained, they can use that fear and other people’s fear to their advantage. That’s where greed comes in. They use the fear to get to other people to get them to do what they want to benefit themselves. The Crucible went from 0-100 real quick. But how? What caused these simple townsfolk to go all out and start straight up murdering people because of what little kids were saying? Get ready for this- greed and fear. It’s crazy what people will do for a little land and if they believe the devil is possessing people left and right
