Natural hair community is a sisterhood of bi-racial and black women who have decided to abandon relaxers and chemical hair treatments for weaves, curls, kinks, cornrows, braids and many other protective hairstyles. One of the main reasons for going natural was to break free from the European beauty standards and go on a journey to embrace there natural hair and their roots. The natural hair community deal with a lot of problems and one of those problems is being ‘professional’. When it comes to being professional having your hair in a certain way can affect the hiring process which means Kinky, curly, nappy or having cornrows can affect a qualified person’s chance of getting employed. Curllism is a term used in a movement to change the negative ways that people view natural hair which was first used by Solagne Knowles to mainly address the stereotype of natural hair being unkempt. Those who follow the term believe that no one should have to change their natural hair because it is part of their identity. Those who have afro textured hair are expected to go through dangerous hair treatments to make their hair look ‘professional’ because of the social grading system which gives the Kinkiest hair the lowest grade.9 out of 10 times when a 'person of colour' is told anything about their features it is not called out on because society has a way of making us feel as though we're not good enough and with the workplace portraying an image of natural hair not being professional enough for a workplace giving people with more kinky hair self-doubt and love which is one of the biggest reasons why discrimination against natural hair needs to be stopped. I believe that our capabilities should be able to do more for us than our appearance. This is a serious issue and something has to be done because being denied the right to work in an area that they are capable of because of their hair which leads to them being jobless and struggling to feed themselves and their families just because people feel as though what someone was given and can’t change is unprofessional. No matter someone's appearance and how taken back, intrigued or amused you are by them you keep it to yourself or make a comment about it but no matter what we are still able to get over it and go about our day. If we see someone with bright colour hair we just think 'that's different' why natural hair should be commented on. Why is it okay for educational institutions and bosses to not employee or take money which supports families and pays bills because of hair styles or
