Understanding myself is one way I consistently adhered to the ethical principle. For example, In Derr, et al. Quoting Kakabadse & Rozuel, (2010) stated that if you understand yourself, you are very much aware of your moral behavior. In turn, you make yourself more aware of the feelings of others when acting on ethical values and principles, (2012, P.66). In fact, if values are the relatively permanent and deeply held, your beliefs and attitudes may help determine your behavior. And according to Derr (2013), that before an ethical theory can be useful, the theory has to “be directed toward a common set of goals” P.66). My strategies to ensure adherence to ethical principle is based on fairness and values. My strategies are using the bottom-up approach. For example In Derr, et al. quoting (Altekruse 2004 & Rainbow, 2002) described the bottom-up approach as an ethical decision that is based on the situation, (2013, P.67). I continue to use four criteria specified in the text for guidance in deciding ethical dilemmas. (1) Utilitarian this is an ethical behavior that is guided by what will result in the greatest good for the greatest number of people. (2) Individual ethical behavior that is guided by what will result in the individual’s best long-term interests, which ultimately is in everyone’s self-interest. (3) Moral right ethical behavior that is guided by respect for the basic human right, those mentioned in the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights.
