Approximately 16,941 oil wells are located in the state of Louisiana. Although this seems like many, just a few can have a vast impact on an entire family. My great-great-grandfather John buying a few oil wells set a family in stone, and paved the path for great ancestors. This event caused my family as we know it today to exist. My family generates income from the oil wells to this day, and my father owns an oil business with these wells. It is amazing how a few oil wells in a ghost town can have a lifetime impact on an entire family.

I was a simple man living in Ohio. My grandparents had arrived from Germany many, many years ago. One day, I had heard about the big oil boom in Louisiana. A light bulb flashed bright in my old head, and I quickly bought tickets for a train headed straight for Shreveport, Louisiana. I knew that I had a chance to make a fortune with the fountains of black gold in Oil City. The train smelled of new dreams and rusted iron, and the fields the train sped past looked of family aspirations and fortune. After days of travelling, I hopped off the train and sped to my new property. Arriving in Oil City, I had found a city bustling with others searching for the same fortune that I was.
