Osama Bin Laden Osama Bin Laden is a name known around the world. He was revered, feared, tolerated, and hated by many, depending on what position you had in the Middle East and Islam. The name Osama Bin Laden (OBL) is synonymous with Islam/tyrannical terrorism. His followers believed him to be a great leader, meant to lead the world to Islam and/or to eradicate non-believers. Bin Laden became a follower of a man by the name of Azzam, his mentor in the late 1970’s. He studied with Azzam and came to agree that there should be one Islamic state and other ideals that Azzam believed in.
