Major glands of the endocrine system are pituitary gland ,thyroid, parathyroids, and pineal body. The Endocrine glands also release 20 major hormones directly into the bloodstream where they can be transported to cells in other parts of the body. The pituitary glands, also called “master gland”, makes hormones that control other endocrine glands. Thyroid hormones control the rate at which cells burn fuels from food to produce energy. Parathyroids are four tiny glands that are attached to the Thyroid hormones and regulates the level of calcium in the blood with the help of calcitonin. The pineal body, also known as “pineal gland”, secretes melatonin. Melatonin is hormone that may help regulate when you sleep at night and when you wake in the morning.
