Patrick Henry’s call to arms, his passionate speech before the Presidents of the Virginia Council, was to empower his fellow country men to come together and unite. To go to war for the worthiest of causes, to defend their freedom, to fight and die as free men as opposed to living under the tyranny of Great Britain. In the following, examples of how defending our freedom have paramount will be examined and conclude it was the right choice.
In his speech, he first and foremost insisted and exemplified men were already engaged in this fight. Why sit and wait for defeat and ultimately continue submission under Great Britain while we had the means and manpower to fight and deliver our own freedom by gaining victory over them. In todays America, we are privileged to live freely. These freedoms continue to come at a price. Soldiers engaged in wars then and now. Freedom in 1775 meant your ability to protect your family and your belongings from a dictator that would take usually half of what you owned and if you owned nothing, then your own children became their property. At the time this was an unjust and horrible reality.
In today's current political climate, we are at a crossroad which threatens the core values of our Constitution, Declaration of Independence and most importantly our freedom as citizens of this great nation. Today there are entirely too many caucuses derailing, denoting and destroying what we as a country continue to fight and maintain. The very cause Patrick Henry so passionately believed in there is now apathy in its place. Many politicians since 1775 have learned how to use our nation's citizens' money to line their pockets, build their wealth and notoriety. Our elected president needs neither and I believe he can move our nation away from stagnancy. Of course, he is not widely accepted precisely because he is not a politician and I believe he exudes some of the same characteristics Patrick Henry did. Our nation, its citizens and their family’s welfare should come first. We have too many people, including children, who are homeless and go to bed at night
