Paul in the Book of Acts, Chapter 17 is preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the heathens. He approaches this in a very different manner than he did when he was talking to the Jews. To these people he did not quote scriptures because they would not have been familiar with them instead he met them where they were and used examples from their pagan culture and very simply told them what they really needed was a relationship with the one true God. He wanted to share with them that the unknown god they were already worshipping was indeed the true God the maker of everything they just didn’t know him. They do not have an intimate relationship with the Father through the Son Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit dwelling in them. With the Holy Spirit abiding within us we are empowered, strengthened to spread the good news of the gospel. Without the anointing of the Holy Spirit in our lives we quickly lose focus on Jesus and begin to sink. In Matthew 14:30 “Bus seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” As soon as Peter took his focus off Jesus he started to sink into the Sea of Galilee.. Peter started to sink, but he looked up and saw the strong hand of Jesus reaching down to life him up. This same Jesus who lifted Peter out of the waves will rescue us today. If we want true peace, joy and happiness we must never lose focus on the one true God creator of everything, we must live a life of faith. There will be times when the weather gets rough and storms will come but we must keep ourselves fixed on our Redeemer and he will calm life’s stormy seas. Jesus is the Son of God. He is the Lord of everything. Even the wind and waves obey him. To live life in spirit is the only way to have joy unspeakable and full of glory and the half has never yet been told as the hymn writer said.
