Pennsylvania Charter School Due Process Court Case
This Mastery Charter School is located in South Philadelphia on 9th and Johnston Street. This court case is about an intellectual disability, autism, and is speech/language impaired eleventh grade student. The student also has a disability that is included in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, 29 U.S.C. § 794. This was put in place to help the student in the best way possible. The school’s efforts to get the students who are in public schools free education in approved private schools.. The student has been attending mastery Charter School Thomas since Grade 7.
Parties involved
Those involved in this case are the student’s parents, whom are represented by Pro Se, Mastery Charter School Thomas campus, whom is represented by Lucas Repka, Esquire, O’Donnell Associates, and the Hearing officer Linda M. Valentini, Psy.D. CHO.
Issues
The main issues with this student was that they were defiant. They has had issues with doing their homework, transition , teachers, peers, and things of that nature since the early parts of Grade 7. In court, the child’s mother expressed her concerned for her child, while attending

The school had more than enough evidence to prove that they have done all they can to try to help this student and his parents. The order of the court was that the student had to change his educational placement and be placed to an approved private school. Mastery Charter had to send out applications to the student’s parents for the schools that the student were approved for to attend. The following school year, the student was not allowed to be a Mastery Charter School student, but one of which the parents chose for the approved private
