“So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.” Is a very popular quote from the book “The perks of being a wallflower”. Not many people knew that this was a book made into a movie. Perks of being a wallflower is a book written by Stephen Chobosky. The book is based on letters written by a boy named Charlie that were about his freshman year in high school. This book stays true to the life of a freshman’s adventure into high school. Teenagers have to deal with so many things and coming from a teenager that just came out of high school im speaking the truth. The life of a teenager is tough and sometimes hard to write about but Chobosky hit it right on point with sticking true to the life of a teenager. We learn how Charlie deals with death, life in high school and making friends. Charlie is having a difficult time adjusting to high school. Upperclassmen picking on him, living in the shadow of his older brother and sister and trying to make new friends. While Charlie is trying to move forward with his life his past somehow affects him. Charlie was dealing with the death of not only of his Aunt Hellen but also lost his bestfriend during the summer. Charlie thoughout the book has flash backs of him at 5 years old and of his Aunt Helen which he was close with. In one of the flashback’s it tells how she had died in a car accident while going to get Charlie his birthday present. Charlie always had though it was his fault she had died. After having a meltdown and him almost trying to commite suicide he finally comfesses after 16 years he had been sexual assaulted by her. This is why Charlie has a hard time with life itself. You could feel the pain Charlie had felt and what he was going through at such a young age.
There been many books written about the life a teenager in high school but not just about high school. Some books have talked about a love story, sports life or just some random made up story that is probably not even true. To write a story from a made from a teenagers point of view is a hard task to do which not many succeded and stuck to what it really is like in high school. Like come on do you really think your going to be singing and dancing in the cafeteria during lunchtime? I think not. The perks of being a wallflower stayed true to the life of teenager in high school. They showed how it was to go on their first date, first high school dance and their first encounture of sex and drugs. As we read the book we remembered what it was like to be in high school. Flashbacks of images went through your head and almost relive what Charlie had went through. High school was a time to experiment things, make friends and memories not try and sing along with everyone in the cafeteria. It talked about true life not some made of story of which is one reason why this book attracted young people including myself.
Leaving middle and coming into high school you would think
