Personal Statement: A Career In Education

In all honestly, I wish I had started this assignment at the very beginning of my pursuit in education. I would have a lot more books logged on Kudos. I have a clearer understanding of how important it is to saturate my classroom with books. Before I had a very basic or general plan for a small classroom library. After reading so many books this semester, I am able to recognize a number of themes with a little more ease that are present in a lot of the books. Throughout the summer, I want to continue this assignment and build my library. One of the ways that I plan on doing that is by joining different online groups that focus on children literature. Being able to respond to my classmates on different reading assignments have helped widen my perspective. By putting myself around other people with a similar focus, I hope that it will really help continue to help me as a future educator.

Being able to engulf myself into a story is still important. I do not have a lot of free time to indulge myself and as I was reading through these works I started to get picky. As a future teacher, I want books that captivate my students and help foster a love for reading. Not only can a book take you to a different country it can teach you so many lessons. Personally, I did not know who I was or what I wanted to be for a long time. I grew up in a situation where I could not be myself or even try to figure it out. So, I was whatever main character there was in my book and whatever lesson she or he learned I learned as well. I do not want to and I will not force this attachment or dependency on books. Honestly, all I want is they know that a book can be just as good as a key because a book can be the key. For example, if you need to trap a gopher or write a research paper, then a book can give you advice for each
