The death of Piggy was perhaps the most graphic and disturbing, but for a good reason. The vivid description that Golding provided gave us clear visualization of the tragic incident that symbolized the loss of reason and order. When Piggy was struck by the rock, both his head and the conch broke opened. The deceasing of the conch was meant to show the loss of order as it was the only thing left that give Ralph his power and was what got him elected for chief in the first place. Also, Piggy was recognized by Ralph within the group of boys for his knowledge and reasoning, something that Jack and his hunters ridiculed. When Piggy’s head was split opened by the rock, Golding described “stuff” spilling out and “red” which shows the loss of his knowledge
