Did you know Jack Sparrow was in the Pacific Northwest? That was a lie, he is a fictional character. But there were actual people that were pirates in the Pacific Northwest from 1575-1742. They might not be as cool as Jack Sparrow, but some are just as crazy! “Only the devil and I know the whereabouts of my treasure,and the one of us who lives the longest should take it all” (Edward Teach).

In 1575 to 1742 pirates swept the ocean. They would raid and pillage every village,town or boat they could. You might think that pirates only stayed in warm, tropical climates. Well they did! In the 1600’s the Pacific Northwest had many features of somewhere like the Caribbean. While a climate like that is nice, everything has its flaws, this flaw being pirates! Pirates loved warm climates. Which made it nearly impossible for new settlements to be created. While settlers started to think that we're starting to get a solid village, the pirates pillaged them for all they had. It was as easy as stealing candy from a baby.

There were many reasons people chose to the life on the sea… But some of the main reasons were that many countries weren't very wealthy. Which meant people would do anything for easy money. Also so many people were formal naval sailors that when they were forced out of their home they did the only thing they knew how, sail. It wasn't the best lifestyle but it suited them. They knew how to do it so they did
