Over the years there has been many situations dealing police brutality; which in return has become a huge problem for the minority. With all the news that has spread throughout the world; the eyes of the nation opened up to a lot of things. There’s something different going on in the world everyday but this topic has yet to die down. There has been ways put into effect to prevent the worse from happening; but it lays in the hands of the person who has the choice to do wrong or right. Sometimes actions are overlooked when it comes to someone who has power in their hands. Rather it be power through the mouth, hands or a gun they install a state of fear. Over the years there has been problems within certain races when it comes to the police. “Police Brutality”, an article from Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. “ Incidents of police brutality appear to target people of color disproportionately, according to several recent studies. A team of researchers from Columbia University, Rutgers University, and the University of Massachusetts analyzed more than 200,000 encounters from 2007 to 2010 between officers of the Boston Police Department and civilians. They discovered that the department’s stop-and-frisk program targeted racial minorities at a rate of 63.3 percent of all stops.” (Cengage Company). Racial profiling is a big problem in today’s world, it’s sad that only the minorities are stopped just because of the color of their skin. The term “driving while colored” has been a fear of many colored individuals. The stop-and-frisk program was put into place for the minority; the labels that has been put on the communities are beyond baffling. Before everything took a turn for the worse Anthony was playing football with his brother in the front yard. From the article "For a Mother, Vindication And Sorrow." coming from New York Times; it states that “Officer Livoti smirking at times during the trial, aloof and arrogant in their presence. This was the same man, they learned, who had talked about how his authority had been usurped and challenged by Anthony and his brother David when they refused to stop tossing a football in front of their home on the night of Dec. 22, 1994.” (Gonzalez, David). The officer approached the two boys and said that his actions took place because he felt like his authority was being challenged; in return he was only acquitted. Two years later the truth about officer Livoti committing homicide; he was given six and a half years. Officer Livoti was released april 2005.
