In the view of political frame organizations are coalition of various individuals and interest groups. A coalition forms because the members need each other, even though their interest could overlap. In political frame goals are evolved through ongoing negotiation and bargaining. In the real world individuals compete for scare resource and try to make a decision, who gets what. Scarce resource creates conflict among the individuals. Therefore, power has become the most important asset. Power in the organizations is basically the capacity to make different things happen. Our society is constituted of numerous, overlapping and intersecting networks of power. Politically the issue is how the competing groups articulate preferences. Power is a major source of motivation. David McClelland talks about the need of power. Need for power could be positively applied to accomplish group …show more content…
An employee motivated by this need enjoys status recognition, competition, winning arguments, and influencing others. The motivational factor of power comes from personal prestige and status. Higher position in the organization provides certain power. Again, the ability to deliver jobs, political support, money or other rewards brings power. In fact, power flows to those with the information and know-how to solve difficult problems. Organization relies on employees with special abilities. Consequently skillful employees have special importance in the company. When employees have certain control over the job then they would be more motivated. Power could be used negatively as well. Sometimes managers use power to pursue their own needs. If power is used to coerce employee then it would have harsh effect on motivation. Conflict could have positive or negative effects on motivation. Conflict could create discomfort among the employees which yields lower motivation.
