Age specific variations of growth and development Children’s immune systems have not completed their full maturation at this age yet. A preschool age child’s body temperature is anywhere between 98 to 99 degrees F. Temporal artery temperature is used as a screening tool for children age 3 months to four years. A successful study was also done that shows a tympanic temperature more closely correlates to rectal temperature measured in children from ages two to twelve. (Hockenberry & Wilson, 2015, p. 120) Health Promotion Strategies Throughout the Lifespan (2009) recommends “Before –school immunizations are recommended for the preschooler, between four and six years, prior to entry in Head Start of kindergarten” (Murray et al, 2009, p. 348). The same book also states, “ In the United States, two organizations, the Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Committee on Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics, govern the recommendations for immunization policies and procedures” (Murray et al, 2009, p. 195).
