Racism is something we have all seen whether it is at school, at work, or in media. In the Oxford Dictionary, racism is defined as, "the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races." So where did this behavior come from? Racism began when people started facing people of different races. Racism has transformed into modern racism; basically people just not liking other people, which also led to prejudice. In today's society, racism and prejudice are major problems. We need to change stereotypical thinking and the way race affects your ability to climb the societal ladder and exceed in life.
As stated before, racism is something we have all witnessed. White people feel ambivalence toward black people because of the way blacks are portrayed in media such as television shows, movies, music and literature. As we get older, media becomes a part of our lives and is also a major source of how racism keeps itself alive. In T.V. shows, more specifically, crime shows such as "CSI", the criminal is more often than not, Latino or black. Whites are often seen as the "good guys". They often target colored people, even without evidence.

Specifically, a poem called “Modern Racism”, by Herbert Logerie, talks about discrimination in job interviews and daily life. The author states that unqualified white people are given the jobs and qualified people of color are denied the jobs because of their race. The poem also states that when a white person drops a dime, they expect a black person to steal it, implying that all black people are thieves. Do white people really think that? People look down on other races because they think they are better when in reality everyone is equal and should be given equal
