The famous writer Voltaire once said, "Is there anyone so wise as to learn by the experience of others?" This quote completely encompasses my approach to the Principal Interview Assignment. In the initial process of generating a list of possible questions, I realized that this interview could potentially provide a unique perspective on instructional leadership. The interviewee possesses a knowledge-base that when accessed, could offer guidance in future roles. For this reason, I crafted insightful questions that would provoke a reflective conversation, and consequently he would share experiences that can transform the theories with my textbook to practical knowledge.
The interview began with a question about some of the difficulties that principals can encounter as instructional leaders. I asked, "As an instructional leader, what task do you find the most cumbersome?" The interviewee's response was coherent with the theories within the literature on this subject matter, "providing consistent and timely feedback. This process helps the principal provide information to teachers that can celebrate effective instructional practices and create an awareness of practices within the classroom that can be enriched. Feedback provides teachers the opportunity to reflect on their lessons and develop an action plan for professional growth. The teacher develops the abilities to assess continuously the effectiveness of their work and adjust their practices accordingly.
