“The incarceration of human beings for profit is immoral” (Burgon). The main goal of privatized prisons is to make a business out of the prison industry and out of inmates by cutting the costs of their basic needs. Private prisons will induce hazardous conditions so that they make a profit out of the prison industry. Even though prisons are not made for profit, they are made for public safety and no one should cut down on the price of safety. In any case, the main problems that private prisons face are inadequate staffing, health concerns, and the problem of increasing incarceration with overcrowding. To begin with, private prisons cut down on costs by having inadequate working staff to make a profit. It's important to realize that they went as far as to reject prisoners and send them off to state prisons instead of paying for the costs themselves to take care of the inmates. Furthermore, this attests to the point that private prisons are willing to do anything in their power to cut down on their costs, even if that includes discarding basic healthcare needed for inmates at these facilities. Undeniably, for-profit prisons try to cut down on the costs of necessities, but do they help with the problem of overcrowding? Do private prisons help with overcrowding? The opposition may state that private prisons help with overcrowding by removing prisoners from overpopulated state prisons.
