After the 7 Years War, colonists started moving west of the Appalachian Mountains. An Indian tribe attacked and killed a lot of colonists as they moved west. Britain was afraid that if colonists continued moving west the Indians would start another long war, but Britain was in too much debt for another war. The Proclamation of 1763, issued by King George, stated that the land west of the Appalachian Mountains was reserved for the Indians, and the colonists weren’t allowed to go there. Britain even sent soldiers to prevent colonists to move west. The Proclamation of 1763 angered many colonists because the wealthy colonists saw it as a way to profit and the poor colonists saw it as a way to escape poverty.
