People texting and driving should result in mandatory jail time to prevent any sort of accidents on the road to keep all citizens safe. Drivers receiving mandatory jail time could eliminate the amount of people text and driving on the roads. First off, texting and driving could cause some serious accidents and possibly death. This is one of the main reasons why they’re so many accidents on the road to this date. According to an article by Inc,” texting while driving makes you 23 times more likely to cause an accident.” (Geoffrey James) Drivers should be 100% focused on the road rather than on their cell phones. A real life event that occurred was in 2009, a girl named Amanda was killed because she was texting and driving. Secondly, not texting and driving could save you tons of money because by removing distracted drivers from the road, insurance rates would be low resulting in money to saved. Also according to a website by Human Factors & Ergonomics Society, they stated that texting and driving slows your brake reaction speed by 18%. Lastly, if a driver texting and driving causes an accident that leads to death. This could cause the driver to have a criminal recorded having a huge impact on his/her life.
