Racism is addressed through the characters of Atticus Finch, Bob Ewell, and Tom Robinson. Racism is feeling superior to someone else just by their skin color. Atticus is defending a Black man who is being blamed for raping a White woman. Bob Ewell demonstrates that racism is kept by showing ignorance and fear by blaming Tom knowing he was innocent. Atticus Finch decided to take Tom Robinson’s case. That lead for kids telling his children that he was a “nigger lover”. “You aren’t really a nigger-lover, then, are you?” “I certainly am. I do my best to love everybody… I’m hard put sometimes—baby, it’s never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. Ewell didn’t tolerate the fact that his White daughter seducing Tom. Bob Ewell saw and he beaten Mayella for that. [Mr. Ewell says—] "I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella!" (Lee, 170) Mr. Ewell speaks offensively towards Tom by calling him a “nigger”. He thinks Tom is trying to steal his ‘property’ when he recalls “on my Mayella!”. His way of having power over Mayella afraids her, he compares Tom with a beast “ruttin’ is mostly called on animals. Bob is fearless, he thinks he has power over everyone by telling a story about Tom most likely not being true. Racism in To Kill A Mockingbird is from the very beginning of the story to the end. The way the family of Atticus is being judge for him defending and taking over a case of an innocent black man in Maycomb, Tom Robinson. Finally, the message of the novel and tolerance is that of racism shouldn’t define who or what you become, because everyone has a prejudice that they dislike or even hates. That doesn’t make you who you are as a person, you should treat everyone with certain respect and equal
